Car Cruise / Vehicle Armada Rules

We have been fortunate that we have never had a serious injury during the Car Cruise / Vehicle Armada at Wasteland Weekend. However, there have been vehicular injuries at OTHER events out there, and we would like to keep our Car Cruise / Armada injury-free. Therefore, we are instituting some new policies for vehicles at our event (most of them are related to the Car Cruise / Armada, but some of them will be enforced everywhere).

Please note: Wasteland World staff has final call on what is safe and what is not in regard to people riding on vehicles. Period.

If a vehicle is pulling/towing a trailer or a second vehicle, everyone inside the lead vehicle must be fully enclosed. That means no one sitting on the roof of the lead vehicle, no one sitting in an open pickup bed of a vehicle hauling a trailer or second vehicle, etc..

This rule goes for ALL vehicles at all times at our events.

Additional rules specifically for the Car Cruise / Vehicle Armada:

Due to the sheer number of vehicles involved with our Car Cruise and their proximity to each other, we have additional safety rules. A lot of people want to participate in the Car Cruise (which we get), which can lead to some vehicles having a lot of extra people on or in them. For the purposes of these rules, we’re going to call these “crowded vehicles.”

ONE row of crowded vehicles will be allowed in the cruise. It will be the very last row. Once this row of crowded vehicles is full, NO MORE CROWDED VEHICLES WILL BE ALLOWED. Drivers who arrive with a crowded vehicle after the back row is full will have to chose to either remove some people from their vehicle, or not participate in the cruise.

For anyone not in the last row of the cruise, here is the safety standard for any people you have in your vehicle that are not in a standard seat:

If that person were to suddenly pass out for some reason, is there a potential danger that they would fall out of the vehicle? If the answer is yes, then that person is not safe and your vehicle may not participate (unless it is in the last row).

For example, if several people are seated in the back of a pickup truck, they are not likely to fall out even if they were to suddenly pass out for some reason. Here are just some examples that would fail this safety test:

If someone is seated on the roof of your vehicle, or if many people are standing in the back of a flatbed, or if someone is sitting on the open window ledge of a car door, holding onto a handle on the inside.

Ultimately, our staff will evaluate how people are positioned and what safety measures you may have in place (safety harnesses etc.) and make a determination. Do not argue with staff’s safety determination. We reserve the right to exclude anyone from the Car Cruise / Vehicle Armada, motorcycle cruise, and any other vehicle-related activities (including driving around) on site during the event..

Wasteland World staff has the final call on what is safe and what is not in regard to people riding on (or even in) vehicles. Period.

Also, NO LARGE FLAGS are allowed on vehicles during the Car Cruise. Very small flags MAY be allowed sometimes at the staff’s discretion, but no guarantees.

Finally, as safety note:

If your vehicle breaks down during the Car Cruise / Vehicle Armada / Motorcycle Cruise, please try to wave other vehicles to go around you so they know you are having trouble keeping up. We have plenty of staff that can come check on you to give you a hand once the Car Cruise is a safe distance away from you.

If you need MEDICAL HELP, please stop and wave both arms above your head so that we know that you are not simply a broken down vehicle and that you need IMMEDIATE assistance.

Once the cruise is completed in the large field where it is held, it is traditional for some of the cars to make their way through the streets of Wasteland City. This is fine, but, please don’t do this for too long. One pass through the streets is enough. When the parading through the streets goes on too long, it kind of jams up traffic through the whole city.

Thank you!
