The Official Costume Contest: Rules, Prizes and More!

You’ve spent all year making your outfit, and now it’s time to show it off during the Wasteland Weekend official Costume Contest! This has been a tradition going back to our very first event (in 2010), and one love doing. The creativity! the craftsmanship! Its always great to see what you bring. While this isn’t the only costume contest during Wasteland Weekend, this is the only one that takes place on the Main Stage.

If you want to participate in the Costume Contest, there’s a few rules that you’ll need to follow. You can read about them here.

The first is pretty easy- your costume must follow the official event Costume Guidelines & Theme. You should already be familiar with these, since they apply to everyone at the event. But if you aren’t, you can read about them here.

Everyone entering the contest will be judged as an individual. Sure, you can walk the stage as a group if you want, but, you will be judged as individual entries. A performance aspect isn’t required or expected, but not disallowed, either. No projectiles (thrown, launched, shot) or pyrotechnics allowed.

Here are some great previous years’ contestants:

There are two main categories, REPLICA and ORIGINAL.

Something in the replica category would be a costume based on an existing IP- Max or Furiosa from any of the “Mad Max” films, a vault suit from “Fallout,” maybe even the Mariner from “Waterworld.”
Something in the original category would be a costume that ISN’T based on an existing IP, but still fits into the Costume Guidelines & Theme.

There will be three prizes (First, Second, and Third) in each of the two categories (Replica and Original), as well as a Judge’s Choice prize handed out by each judge.

And what are the prizes you ask? Well, get ready…

Thanks to our friends at the legendary Stan Winston School,
we have some awesome prizes to give away to the winners!

1st place winners will receive a one year unlimited Stan Winston School subscriptions!
(Go to their website to see just how cool of a prize this is!)

2nd place winners will receive a 6-month unlimited subscription

3rd place winners will receive a 3-month unlimited subscription

Judge’s Choice winners get a 2-month unlimited subscription.

The awarding and use of subscriptions to the Stan Winston online school is not handled by Wasteland World or Wasteland World staff.

All the decisions of the judges are final. And it should go without saying but, any contestant that harasses judges or event staff regarding the costume contest may forgo opportunities to compete in future contests, as well as participation at future events.

So, if you want to participate, be in your costume at Main Stage by 6:30pm on Saturday, October 3rd to enter the contest.
