Health & Safety Covid Guidelines for Wasteland Weekend 2022

For Wasteland Weekend 2022 we have updated our Covid policy to require that all attendees present either a negative Covid test or proof of vaccination for admittance.

For clarification, you will need proof of completion of full vaccination with a COVID-19 vaccine approved or authorized for emergency use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or World Health Organization (WHO) for admission. This means two shots if it was Pfizer or Moderna, and one shot if it was J&J. Boosters are highly recommended, but not required for entry.

Proof of a negative test: Either an antigen or PCR COVID-19 test administered by a medical provider not more than 72 hours before arriving at the event, or a rapid test taken on site before entry.

You may show your actual vaccination document or a copy or photo of your actual vaccination document. Remember that if it’s a copy or a photo it must show BOTH SIDES.

If you are a California resident (or any of the states listed below), please try to get a QR code via the state’s vaccine digital verification system website. Details here:

CA residents should still bring a printed copy of your proof of vaccination as well, but using these state-issued QR codes for our California attendees will help speed up our check-in process for everyone.

Even if you are from outside CA, you should check if your state uses the same Smart Health system. Other places that use the same system include AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, HI, IL, KY, LA, MD, MA, MS, NE, NV, NJ, NM, NY, OR, PR, RI, UT, VA, WA, Canada, and a few other countries

You can see the full list here:

Having a Smart Health QR code WILL get you in to the event in the shortest possible time.

We can NOT scan any other type of QR code for vaccination proof other than the Smart Health system. If you’re in the California My Vaccine Record database, then you are good and you should bring that code. If you’re in another state’s system or you are unsure for any other reason if your QR code will work, bring backup proof of vaccination specified above.

Do NOT ASSUME YOU WILL HAVE WORKING INTERNET ON YOUR PHONE when you arrive. If you are planning to use digital proof of vaccination, we recommend saving a screenshot on your phone (not just a link to click). Wasteland Valley is not the best cellular data coverage area, especially when a huge number of people are trying to use the network all at once when they arrive on site.

Negative COVID tests cannot be over 72 hours old from when the sample was taken (aka when you were swabbed).  For example, if you arrive at the gate to check in at 10am on Wednesday, September 28th, your test must have been administered to you AFTER 10am on September 25th. If you had your test earlier than that, your results will be considered too old for admission.

Negative test results can be presented as a printed document or digitally on your phone, though we recommend taking a screenshot because cell service is not guaranteed at the Check-in gate.  Your negative test results must include your name, birthdate, the date it was done on, and the facility where it was done.  It also needs to include the letterhead from the company who processed it, meaning do not copy paste your results and bring that, or crop the results in any way.

And it should go without saying, but a rapid test swab that you took before arriving and then show to us at the gate will not be considered for admission.

If you would like to take a rapid test on site:

We will allow this, but we DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. You will need to bring your own, unopened rapid test (we will not provide them). Your entire vehicle will be pulled to the side while you wait for one of our staff to be available to supervise taking the test. Depending on how staffing is at that time, and how many people are waiting, you and your carload may be waiting for a while. Know this before you come out.

Once we have a staff member to supervise, you will be allowed to open and take the rapid test. You will then need to wait the usual 15 minutes for the results. If there is even the faintest line on the test indicating a positive result, you and anyone else in your vehicle will NOT be admitted to the event. The discretion of our staff on what constitutes a positive result is final. You MAY NOT RETEST. You get one shot at it. That’s it. You may not come back and retest on another day. You may not come back and present results from a lab or PCR test at a later time. Once you show positive on the rapid test onsite, you are done, sorry.
You and ANYONE ELSE IN YOUR VEHICLE will NOT be admitted for the duration of the event if you test positive.

For all of these reasons, planning to take a rapid test on site should be your last resort for admission.
