Wasteland Weekend’s Code Of Conduct

Wasteland Weekend has always had rules and guidelines. The full list can be found on the FAQ / RULES tab. But we felt like this was a good time to remind people about the specific guidance spelled out in our code of conduct / harassment policy, So we will highlight it here.

SHORT VERSION:

All members of the Wasteland Weekend community have the right to be treated with — and the responsibility to treat others with — dignity and respect. Wasteland World events including Wasteland Weekend (“WW”) are intended to be safe and enjoyable for all attendees. It is the policy of WW to maintain an environment as free as possible from violence, bigotry, bullying, or harassment.

This policy extends to WW live events and activities, WW social media groups, or elsewhere. Your attendance at one of our events, and your membership in our online community can be revoked at any time, at the discretion of our staff, with or without notice. Our most important goal is the safety and enjoyment of our attendees.

Examples of violations of our code of conduct can include:

  • Harassment or derogatory comments, slurs, or epithets, based on race, religion, gender, gender expression or identity, or sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, or national origin.
  • Unwanted sexual advances.
  • Sexual intimidation or threats.
  • Making or threatening reprisals after negative response to sexual advances.
  • Surreptitiously taking photos or videos of an individual for sexual purposes orusing such photos to harass or bully. (The above are examples, not a complete list).Interpretation as to which incidents rise to the level of violations of our policies are at the sole interpretation of our staff.

Wasteland Weekend reserves the right to restrict the display of any symbols it considers hate symbols at any time. Displays of the confederate flag are banned at our events.

EMERGENCIES ON SITE – If you have an emergency at Wasteland Weekend, or are concerned for your or someone else’s safety or well-being, please go to our medical tent (marked with a red cross), our command center (next to the Wasteland Gate), or find one of our security personnel (usually wearing a blue arm band).SUPPORTIVE RESOURCES

WW offers resources to individuals who may have experienced assault, harassment, bullying, or sexual intimidation at our events.

Any volunteer you see wearing a walkie-talkie should be able to direct you to a member of our security or medical staff. As a victim, you will have the right to choose what resources you use, with whom you will speak, what you will say, and when you will say it. We offer legal reporting of incidents, but we DO NOT require it. We believe it is a victim’s right to share as much or as little info about an incident as they feel comfortable.
